Cougars Fall to King's, 74-60

WILKES BARRE, Pa. (01/06/07) - Senior guard Bryan Keller (Piscataway, N.J.) scored a team-high 11 points to lead three Cougars in double-figures, however the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a 74-60 decision to host King's College in non-conference action on Saturday evening.Keller also finished with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Cougars (9-4). Junior guard Jim Welsh (Philadelphia, Pa.) paced the Monarchs (7-6) with a game-high 20 points off the bench.

King's took a 31-16 lead at halftime, as junior guard Jamie Cousart (Holland, Pa.) and junior guard Kofi Dwebeng (Voorhees, N.J.) each scored seven points in the opening stanza.

For the Cougars, senior guards Bryan Miller (Trenton, N.J.) and Lamar Wright (Galloway, N.J.) each added 10 points, while senior forward Brett Wyatt (Elizabeth, N.J.) added eight points.

Kean returned to action on Monday, January 8, when the men's and women's basketball teams traveled to John Jay College for a doubleheader. Miami, Fla. (1/2/07) - Senior Chi Clark (Maplewood, N.J.) led all players with 18 points as the Kean University women's basketball team improved to 11-1, defeating Gordon College, 84-48, in the Florida Sunshine Classic.

Senior Ebony Allen (Camden, N.J.) recorded 11 points in 14 minutes while junior Kim Smith (Burlington, N.J.) had 10 points and four rebounds.

The Cougars scored the first basket and never looked back, leading by as many as 18 points in the first half. Clark paced Kean with 14 first half points while nine other Cougars tallied points in the first 20 minutes of action as the Cougars led by a score of 49-31 at the break.

Kean picked up the pace in the second half, leading by as many as 36 points on three separate occasions, including the final score.

The Cougars will conclude their trip in Florida with one more game on Wednesday, January 3rd, taking on Husson College.
