Cougars Split With Stockton, 19-9 & 12-9

Pomona, N.J. (4/5/08) - Richard Stockton (15-7, 3-4 NJAC) slugged 24 hits and defeated #3/10 Kean University (21-6, 6-2 NJAC), 19-9, in the first game of today's NJAC baseball doubleheader. The Cougars rebounded with a 12-9 win in the nightcap. Senior Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) slammed three home runs on the day for KU, giving him 11 for the season. Scott Fisher (Toms River, N.J.) hit a homer in each game for Stockton.

Game One (Richard Stockton 19, Kean 9)
Gianakas blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to spark Kean to a 4-0 lead. Stockton took the lead with three runs apiece in the second and third frames for a 6-4 edge. The Ospreys later broke the game open with seven runs in the sixth inning for a 14-5 lead. Craig Rich (Hamilton, N.J.) provided the key hit of the inning with a bases-loaded triple that yielded three RBI. Stockton led by at least eight runs for the rest of the game and won 19-9.

Chris Fischer (Cherry Hill, N.J.) went 5-6 with a double to lead Stockton to the 19-9 victory in the opener. Pat Goodwin (Mays Landing, N.J.) was 3-6 with two doubles and three RBI. Gianakas went 4-5 with two home runs and four RBI for KU.

Game Two (Kean 12, Richard Stockton 9)
Sophomore Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) (pictured right) led Kean to a 12-9 victory in the nightcap by going 3-5 with two RBI and two runs. Senior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) (pictured left) was 2-6 with two doubles and two runs and Gianakas was 2-4 including a solo home run in the fifth inning for the Cougars. Fisher went 2-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI while Goodwin also was 2-4 with a double and an RBI for Stockton.
Fisher and Rich stroked RBI singles as part of a five-run third inning that gave Stockton a 7-4 lead. Kean took the lead for good with six runs in the fourth frame, which included RBI doubles by Burke and freshman Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.). The Cougars led 10-7 after the six-run outburst and went on to defeat Stockton 12-9.

Reliever Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) picked up the win in game two. Aich (3-1) tossed three and a third innings allowing one earned run. Junior Drew Campbell (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned his third save of the year after throwing three and two thirds innings allowing just two hits and one run.

Kean hosted Staten Island in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 8th at 3:30 pm.
