Field Hockey Grabs NJAC Win Over Stockton, 4-1

Union, N.J. (9/23/08) - Junior Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) recorded a hat-trick as Kean University defeated visiting Richard Stockton College, 4-1, Tuesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener for both. Kean, who outshot the Ospreys, 33-6, improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in NJAC play while Richard Stockton falls to 0-6 and 0-1 in conference action.

KU got on the board in the 29th minute for the only goal of the first half as Gibbs scored unassisted, despite outshooting Stockton, 18-1, in the first 35 minutes.
Stockton surged out of the break and tied things up at 45:11 on a goal from junior Christy Barbetto (Hammonton, N.J.). The Cougars would go-ahead five minutes later on Gibbs' second goal of the evening of an assist from senior Katie McGee. The two would reconnect at 57:04 for Kean's third goal of the night. Sophomore Kelly Mataya (West Paterson, N.J.) closed out the scoring off an assist from Gibbs at 63:15.

Keeper Debi O'Kane (Cologne, N.J.) recorded 10 saves for the Ospreys while sophomore Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) tallied three.
