Newark, N.J. (9/3/08) - Freshman forward Sergio Marchuk (Wallington, N.J.) netted the game-winner just under two minutes into overtime to propel the Cougars to their first win of the season by defeating New York University, 1-0, Wednesday evening. In a game where both teams struggled on the offensive side of the field, Marchuk (pictured right) took a feed from Dennis Correia (Elizabeth, N.J.) during a run upfield, took advantage of a quick opening in the NYU defense and helped Kean (1-1-1) pick up its first victory of the season while ruining the Violets' (0-1) season debut.

NYU owned a 10-5 edge on shots and a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks, but neither team capitalized upon the few offensive opportunities presented.

Keeper Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, N.J.) collected two saves in the win.
