NEW YORK (2/13/09) - The Kean University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Rider-Lafayette Invitational at the Armory Track and Field Center, where the Cougars set three school records and had two more individuals and one relay team qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet, hosted by Rider University and Lafayette College, featured competitors from Division I, II and III. Freshman Aaron Lucas (Union, N.J.) had a busy afternoon, competing in three different events with a team-high fifth place finish in the high jump. The rookie tied his own school record and ECAC qualifying height with a leap of 1.99 meters to place tied for fifth in the high jump. On the track, Lucas (pictured right) just missed ECAC standards in the 200-meter dash (22.88 seconds), while also finishing 28th in the 60-meter dash (7.23 seconds).

Senior Seun Oyelaja (Lagos, Nigeria) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.66 seconds to place 24th overall out of 79 competitors. He also placed 33rd out of 70 competitors in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.28 seconds.

Junior Matt Gough (Jefferson, N.J.) set a new program standard in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 51.32 seconds to place 28th out of 79 competitors.

In the long jump, senior Jason Staggers (Jackson, N.J.) met ECAC qualifying standards with his leap of 6.66 meters to place seventh overall out of 44 competitors. Staggers also fell just shy of breaking his own school record in the triple jump, finishing 20th with a jump of 13.17 meters.

The men's 1600-meter relay team qualified for the ECAC Championships in a school-record 3:25.86 to place 12th overall.

On the women's side, senior Sherene Stephens (Orange, N.J.) broke her own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 10.31 meters.

Freshman Jamie Sacco (Park Ridge, N.J.) placed 16th out of39 throwers in the shot put with a throw of 10.73 meters, while freshman Maria Moya (Matawan, N.J.) cleared 2.85 meters to place 13th in the pole vault.
