Kean Athletics

Orange, Calif. (3/18/09) - Senior Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) tossed a complete game to earn the win as #8 Kean University broke their skid by defeating #7 Chapman University, 6-5, Wednesday evening at Hart Park. Aich (1-0), who has primarily handled closing duties for the past two seasons, made just the seventh start of his career, and picked up the third complete game win of his career. The previous six starts all occurred in his freshman campaign. In tonight's action, Aich allowed five runs, one earned, and 10 hits. He fanned six and walked no one.

Kean, which broke a three game losing streak with the win, improves to 11-4 overall. Chapman, who defeated the Cougars last Saturday, falls to 15-6.

KU got the bats going with their first opportunity as rookie Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) lined a double down the leftfield line to drive in two. Cavico would later come around and score on a Chapman miscue to take an early 3-0 lead.

After the Panthers tacked on a single run in the second, Kean added single runs in the third and fourth as sophomore Gabe Ramirez (North Bergen, N.J.) recorded an RBI single and junior Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) added a sacrifice fly.

But Chapman took advantage of a leadoff Cougar miscue in the bottom of the sixth and went on to tie things up at five all as seven Panthers came to the plate in the frame.

But the Cougars finally caught a break in the top of the ninth. With two outs and runners on first and second, freshman Eddie Jennings (Jackson, N.J.) came to the plate. Jennings hit a hard grounder that the first baseman couldn't handle, and freshman Nick Ramagli (Emerson, N.J.) crossed the plate with what would be the winning run.

Aich sealed the win, this time his own, in the bottom of the ninth after facing just four batters. After a leadoff single, Aich recorded a strikeout and a double play to end the game.

Offensively rookie Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Cavico was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Catcher Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) was 2-for-3.
