Strong Second Half Propels Kean Past Camden, 85-46

Union, N.J. (1/19/11) - The Kean University women's basketball used a 50 point second half to propel them to a 85-46 win over Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action Wednesday evening at Harwood Arena.With the win the #3/4 Cougars improve to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in league play. The loss drops Rutgers-Camden to 7-10 and 1-6 in the NJAC.

After keeping the game close in the first four minutes of play, the Cougars quickly built up their lead using an 18-0 run over a seven minute span to put the score at 29-7. Senior Tiffany Patrick contributed with 10 points in the run. The Scarlet Raptors then responded and over the final six plus minutes of the half used a 13-4 spurt to pull within 10 at intermission, 35-25.

Patrick led all players at the break with 12 points and six rebounds while sophomore Simone Smith added seven points and eight rebounds. Junior Brittany Turner led Camden with six points.

The Cougars slowly started to widen their lead and held a 20 point lead after three straight layups from senior Angelica Bermudez with just under 10 minutes to go. Junior Brittany Powell extended that lead to 34 thanks to five treys over a four minute span.

Patrick finished with a double-double 17 points and 14 rebounds while Powell tallied 16 points. Bermudez had 12 points and six rebounds while teammate Smith added 10 points and nine rebounds in the win. Junior Stephanie Deisley had a team-high 13 points for Rutgers-Camden.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Ramapo College at 1 p.m.
