Tuesday November 29, 2011, the senior class hosted a workshop comparing the benefits of graduate school and immediate entrance to the full-time workforce. The exhibit was held in Maxine and Jack Lane Center for Academic Success, room 118 -- the type of grand room necessary to host an event of this magnitude.
The present faculty members assisted the undergraduates, by both offering advice to aid their graduation, and by discussing decisions students will have to make after leaving Kean. The advisors spoke one-on-one with each student in attendance -- answering questions and addressing student concerns. In essence, the staff put forward the necessary information, which the newly educated undergraduates would have to contemplate.
Senior class president and communications major, Dariany Santana stated: "Many upperclassmen requested that we hold a workshop that would help them in their future endeavors. One of the most vital decisions a graduate must make is whether he or she wants to enter the workforce or attend grad. school. These decisions are difficult and, we, as student leaders, must inform them and provide as much aid as possible."
In addition to speaking with advisors, students congregated with one another over ho'rderves, such as cocktail shrimp. This provided students with an intellectual atmosphere in which they were able to speak with their peers -- acquiring valuable advice and opinions. Moreover, the underclassmen were able to speak with the upperclassmen -- soaking in the upperclassmen's knowledge about topics such as: when to apply to graduate school, how to improve study habits, how to get involved on campus, and which degrees are most valued during this tough economic time.
This program, sponsored by the senior class, aided dozens of students in less than two hours -- efficiency at its finest.
