Spring time is here and as summer approaches, it's time to start making plans on how you will spend your summer. Most students will choose to go home for break and work the entire time, while others will spend their entire break on vacation at a tropical beach. However, the "smart students," especially those who want to stay ahead of the game, go to summer school, right?

Although it is hot and sticky in the residence halls during the summer, summer school is full of benefits. Kean allows each student to take up to 12 credits during the summer, which is only six credits per session. Some students may take a class that is 4 credits end end up with a total of 7 credits. Therefore during this time, if you are behind you can catch up, and if you are on the right track the credits can put you ahead. This is also the time when you may want to take classes over that you did not do so well in, to help boost your grade point average. Students that live far away can even opt to apply for housing in the residence halls, while taking classes to make it easier on them.

If money is an issue, fret not because financial aid will provide funding for both sessions. However in order to be eligible you must register for at least six credits between both sessions. You also have to complete and submit two applications, the 2006-2007 FAFSA and Kean University 2007 Summer Financial Aid Application, which is due March 31. For additional information you can check KeanWISE or call the Office of Financial Aid at (908)-737-3109.

Early registration for summer school began on March 20th and will end this Friday. And if you still have not made up you mind, you still have time. Registration resumes May 14 and will continue until May 16. Have fun this semester but make it worth your time and if all else fails there are always summer classes!
