This past winter has been long and cold, leaving us with no other choice but to go to class bundled in hats, scarves, gloves and snow boots for months. However, the much anticipated summer is now upon us, therefore, its time to put away the Uggs and pull out your flip flops. It is time to say goodbye to sweaters and corduroys and say hello to dresses, tank tops, and shorts. As the weather breaks, celebrities are setting the new trends and designers are in a rapid rampage trying to duplicate the looks. Lets take a look at the new trends being set for summer 2007 that we can make happen here at KU!
As it begins to warm up, the skinny jean rave is warming down. Shorts are always a must for the summer, however, this year the shorter the better. Whether they are boy shorts or daisy dukes, jean or khaki, high waisted or low rise, shorts are in. Worn with sandals, flats, or pumps, to the grocery store or to a concert, every girl should own a pair. Stars like Ashley Olsen and Nicole Richie have been spotted shopping in L.A. wearing their really short shorts.
Just like every other year the skirt has made its return, however this year with a vintage feel. The pencil skirt, which made its appearance in the late 1940's when Christian Dior showcased it on his runway, is making a comeback. The skirt is made to hug the hip as it follows the curve of the leg, stopping at the knee. It is best worn with a silk or lace blouse, a cropped jacket, pearls and pumps that are no less than four inches. Beyonce was recently spotted having dinner with beau Jay-Z wearing her pencil skirt. It's chic, sexy and vintage, what more could a girl want in her closet?
Another trend making a come back are t-shirts, however, this year it's all about dressing up the Tee. Actress Kate Bosworth was seen wearing a t-shirt and wide legged dress pants with suspenders, and a pair of pumps with a clutch. After she showcased this new look, stylists and "fashionistas" everywhere were going crazy trying to copy it. With the right hair cut and very little make up, this affect can make anyone look chic but trendy at the same time.
On those breezy summer nights when you have to take those long walks to the Vaughn-Eames parking lot, throw on a cute hoodie. Whether solid or printed, short sleeve, long sleeve or sleeveless, hoodies are definitely in. They are fast and easy to put together and depending on the look you that you go for, they can be very trendy. Worn with boy shorts and flat shoes with a necklace and a bracelet, they are perfect for those summer nights.
Now that it's summer let's take advantage of this beautiful weather, set new trends and inspire others. We have been cold for months and now we are finally getting a break. So, the next time you go shopping keep these trends in mind, and maybe you can become the new trendsetter on campus.
