The Spring semester is finally over: no more 3-hour long classes driving you insane, no more procrastination over that 15 page paper; just pure bliss! With the 107 days of summer fast approaching, most of us are making plans to enjoy the warmness and all the good it brings. There are plenty of ways to have a good time in the summer, including going on a cruise, down to the shore, on a vacation on an island and many others. Carnivals are almost everybody's favorite celebration because they combine a whole lot of fun for a little bit of money. This year's Carnival was definitely a sight to see as many people around the community look forward to having a place where they can bring their family for a night of fun without breaking the bank.

From June 7th through the 9th, Kean University hosted its first carnival after 4 long years. The event was sponsored by Student Organization of Kean University, Inc., and it took place in the back of the Vaughn Eams parking lot. The carnival attracted both the young and old in the hundreds, residing mostly in Essex and Union Counties, who eagerly came to our campus to have a good time. The visitors were greeted with a splendid view of the transformed parking lot, which was now garnished with rides of all shapes and sizes, perfect for thrill lovers. Different stands were also available, holding games ranging from Water Guns, to the Hoop Dunk, to Rainbow Roll. Other fun activities included rides, which attracted the younger part of the crowd. The rides included classics like the carousel and Ferris Wheel to thrilling rides like the Tower Drop, and the Super Slide. One of the most important things to have at a Carnival is of the food! There were booths set up to satisify any appetite whether you came for the funnel cakes or for the homemade lemonade, whatever it was you definitely left complete!

"It was a great event, sponsored by Student Organization so as to get the outside community involved with the Kean students and their families. It was also a great way for student groups to raise funds that will support them with programming," said the President of Student Organization, Kush Parikh, senior, Business Management major. The carnival was indeed a success evident from the turn out of the crowd that included people from different ages and nationalities. Kean University supports diversity and, the carnival was just one of the many events depicting this important goal. This year's carnival was definitely a success as people left with a smile on their face, food in their bellies, and money still left in their pockets. Make sure you look out next year for the big Ferris Wheel parked at Kean!
