When asked how the team has progressed throughout the season, Perry was undeniably optimistic. "We are still progressing. Everyday we get better and better; through practice or in games. The sky's the limit with this team," said Perry. Although Perry has an obvious passion for his sport and team, he admits at times his schedule can become a bit chaotic. "Sometimes it feels like there aren't enough hours in the day to get your work done on and off the field," explained Perry.
Perry grew up in Ocean Township, New Jersey, and says he has been playing baseball as long as he can remember. After high school, Perry chose Kean to continue playing baseball in college. "The coaching staff had a big part of my decision to come to Kean," said Perry. "They made me feel comfortable and part of the family," continued Perry. "The strong work ethic and winning tradition of Kean baseball helped out a lot too," explained Perry. After graduation, Perry has plans of finding a teaching job and possibly coaching as well. "I want to continue to play baseball as long as possible, hopefully professionally," said Perry.
When asked what type of advice he would give to an incoming freshman who may be interested in playing baseball for Kean, Perry explained how a lot of hard work and sacrifice is needed to make it in the sport. "Be ready to work. There is not a team in the state that out works our team," said Perry. "We take pride in that aspect. You need to put in a lot of time and effort in on and off the field," explained Perry.
Enthusiasm and dedication are not hard to find at Kean University. Student athletes like Perry Schatzow embody the essence of dedication and pride that make the athletics at Kean so successful. Hard work and determination go a long way, and Perry personifies the perseverance necessary to achieve great things in life both on and off the field.
