If you are new to Kean University, getting adjusted to the campus is probably one of the things on your mind. Given the relatively small campus size as well as the student body, finding your way around should not be a problem. Apart from being familiar with the buildings in which your classes are located, knowing other important places like the bookstore, Campus Police, Office of Financial Aid, Health Services and others should also be a priority. Where you get your food is important as well, because sometimes a vending machine is not enough.

There are 3 cafeterias on campus, all serving under one company, the Gourmet Dining Services. Located in the University Center, the main cafeteria is probably the most frequented of the 3 and has a seating capacity of approximately 300. Staring this fall, this cafeteria will close later than it used to, it will now be open until 12:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. This change will influence the closing time for the Cougars Den to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The adjustment is meant to accommodate the satisfaction of more students, as Kean continues to expand the student body. The Cougars Den is a much smaller eatery which is also located in the University Center and serves fast food, ranging from French fries and pizzas to burgers and salads.

Downs Hall cafeteria is more of a buffet style of dinning, and is located adjacent to Campus Police. This cafeteria serves a variety of meals with suite the dietary needs of most students, including vegetarians and those who are inclined to eat a more balanced diet. Flex meals plans are also available for those who spend a lot of time on campus and need a convenient way of paying for their meals. For more information about flex meal plans and how to enroll in one, contact Gourmet Dining.

Also owned and managed by Gourmet Dining is the Market Place, located in the University Center next to the computer lab. Famous for its variety of items, the Market Place is a convenient store with essentials like body care items and toiletries to snacks and drinks. Star Bucks is another spot available on campus and is also managed by the Gourmet Dining, and has two locations on campus, one in the University Center and the other in the Center of Academic Success (CAS) on the third floor.

Students are also encouraged to always voice their opinions on how the cafeterias can be improved. This can be done by contacting Gourmet Dining Services at 908-737-4183/4814.
