For many incoming freshmen, living on campus will be the first time they truly experience living on their own. Campus living can make all the difference in the college experience, and is often a great learning experience for any student. Residence Life offers an affordable alternative to the daily commute, while providing spacious rooms and apartments right on campus. Students who live on campus can enjoy an academically accommodating environment, while they build friendships lasting a lifetime.

The Office of Residence Life is committed to providing safe, affordable housing for the 1300 students who live in the residence hall. Residence Life is located on the first floor of Whiteman Hall and is under the direction of Maximina Rivera. Residence Hall Directors (RHD's) are responsible for all administrative responsibilities for their assigned buildings, as well as maintaining a safe and academically stimulating environment for all residents. Each floor in the residence hall has a resident assistant (R.A) who has hired to assist their fellow students in any way possible, as well as offer many opportunities to excel socially and academically through various recreational activities. Resident Assistants are a great asset to resident students, maintaining order and safety while serving as a mentor to their residents.

On campus housing is offered to full-time undergraduate students, and is granted on a first come-first serve basis. Freshman students have the opportunity to live in Bartlett Hall which is an apartment-style residence equipped with a living room, and two spacious bedrooms. Whiteman and Dougall halls are reserved just for freshman students, and provide traditional bedrooms with an adjoining bathroom. Upperclassmen residence halls are spacious, apartment style residence that will more then suit the needs of any diligent student.

Recently, The Department of Residence Life instituted a new security feature called Res Watch. Res Watch is a completely computerized system intended to monitor the guests of the residents within the halls. Residents can register their overnight guests online prior to the visit and will receive a plastic barcode card with their name, along with the date and time of the visit, printed directly on it. The new Res Watch security system will undoubtedly assist Residence Life in their continuous goal of ensuring safety to all resident students

Living on campus is a great way for you to meet new people and build friendships that will last a lifetime while easing the dreaded morning commute. Recently, Kean announced plans to build new residence halls to meet the growing demand of on-campus housing. The Office of Residence Life remains committed to accommodating the ever-changing needs of every student living on campus, and plans to grow alongside Kean University for years to come.
