The moment you have been dreaming of for years has finally arrived. It's one of the biggest transition periods of your life. A transition from being the big kahoona in high school to "fresh" meat on campus, from writing three page reports to 15 page papers and for resident students, it's home-cooked meals to Fruit Loops for dinner. Ah yes . . welcome to college life!

Some of you may be excited to be here, some nervous, some petrified. Yes, it is a whole new world here at Kean, but we want to help you get acquainted with it and find your groove. The following are some valuable
tips from www.quintcareers.com that will assist you in this transition:

1. Attend all Orientations
What is that? You don't 'do' orientations? At this point, you need as much information about campus life as you can possibly get. Take advantage of it.

2. Get Organized
You have to be able to juggle the workload of your classes without missing deadlines or cramming. An organizer and/or a big wall calendar can help you keep assignment due dates in perspective.

3. Strive for the Best
You need to shoot for the stars with your grades. Try not to aim for satisfactory grades if ,that's what you normally
get. Everyone's goal should be to earn the highest grades possible. As a college student,
you want to reach higher heights.

4. Seek a Balance
College life is not just about academics, although it plays a major part. It's also about social activities, interactions and relationships. A healthy balance would be combining both arenas without gearing more to one than the other.

5. Get involved on Campus
One of the fastest ways you can adjust to college life and be comfortable is to join a select group whether it's a student organization, club, sorority, fraternity or a sports team. This gives you a social base and allows you to feel right at home on campus.

6. Get to know your academic advisor
Registering for required courses and fitting them into your schedule can be a daunting task for freshmen, and that is where your advisor steps in. They can help you arrange your schedule when you have course conflicts and map out a plan for future courses. Don't be afraid to ask questions or have them repeat important information. You should not walk away feeling completely confused.
