The game, Pride Bowl, featured the Navy against Cornell University. The first half of the game showed the Navy can do more than protect and serve our nation's shores and they lead Cornell University 14 to 0 putting them way ahead of the game.
Half-time was just as entertaining and comprised of a mix of Hip Hop and other music played by a band. A local high school, Malcolm X Shabazz, drove the crowd into a frenzy when they incorporated the latest hip hop songs like "the Superman" and "Ay Bay Bay" with their phenomenal drum line. Their dance team was also breath taking-they moved their bodies as if they were lacking bones attached to their muscles.
The next half of the game established the Navy as the victors with a win of 34 to 0. At the end of the day, both teams walked away proudly with their heads high, because the Pride Bowl is the sole fund-raiser of Newark-based Project Pride. Project Pride has awarded $1.7 million in scholarship aid to 1,074 Newark kids and has invested almost $4 million into after-school programs for the city's elementary school students.
Those who came out to watch the game were satisfied not only with entertainment but also in the cause of the game. Jordan Cagle, junior Education major, said "As a football player Pride Bowl to me was a great football game that was not only fun to watch, but was also a great way to contribute to Project Pride."
