Giovanna Drummonds, junior Criminal Justice major said, "I love Keyshia Cole's new album, my favorite song on it is 'Heaven Sent'. Keyshia Cole is a real singer! I can relate to her music because she puts a lot of herself into it." Keyshia Cole reached mainstream success with her freshman album "The Way It Is". On September 25, 2007 she returned to the music scene with her sophomore album, "Just Like You". On this album Keyshia appears to be more mature with a lot more to say and Kean students are definitely listening.
Devin Richardson, junior Physical Therapy major, said, "Without a doubt, I'm listening to 'Ms. Kelly' by Kelly Rowland. My favorite songs are 'Ghetto', 'Love', and 'The Show'. I think her beats are smooth, funky, and sexy. She's finally moving out of you know who's shadow and beginning to come into her own." Devin added, "I also like Rihanna. She's gotten out of the traditional island sound and she's become a more versatile artist. She crossed all genres of music with her new album 'Good Girl Gone Bad. I love 'Rehab' and 'Please Don't Stop The Music'."
Pat Onuekwusi, senior Medical Technology major, said "I like Plies. His music is tough. You got to listen to what he's saying. He's talks about things that are really meaningful, issues that people really go through. He's not just your average artist rapping about cars, clothes and jewelry. Plies makes music for those who are living in the struggle."
Although the hype of the 50/Kanye West battle has died down, it's apparent that good ol' Ye' is still on everyone's minds. Maruf "Moo" Adewummi, sophomore Communications-Business Management major, said, "When it comes to individuality Kanye's got it! His new album, 'Graduation' is sick! His music and style [fashion] is ridiculous. I think the reason Kanye sold more than 50 is because he is more relatable."
Artist like Keyshia Cole, Rihanna, Paramore, and Kanye West are changing the music game for the better. Hopefully, they will continue to give us great music to keep our mind's conscious, feet moving, and heads nodding. So keep your ears open and let us know next week, "What In YOUR Speakers"!
