The Kean University Child Care and Development Center

The Kean University Child Care and Development Center is a truly unique department providing quality early-childhood education for the children of staff and students. Simultaneously, they teach emerging students the foundations of early-childhood education. The Child Care and Development Center helps to shape young minds by providing and applying the best educational resources possible. While under the direction of the Department of Early Childhood and Family studies; the Child Care and Development Center applies the latest approaches toward a proactive, healthy, and safe learning environment for children.

The staff of the Child Care and Development Center is comprised of certified teachers, graduate assistants, and undergraduate students. The undergraduate students are mostly education majors, looking to build a foundation of educational experience for their future careers with young children. As student employees, these future teachers are able to apply what they have learned in the classroom in a professional and proactive learning environment, through priceless field experience under the direction of certified teachers.

"Our philosophy is based on the best practices in early childhood education," said Ann L. MacVicar, director of the department. "We demonstrate the most current and proven research to develop our program, taking into account the needs, interests and abilities of the children," continued MacVicar. The Child Care and Development Center remains committed to staying current with the latest studies of childhood development while providing children with an education that is costumed to their growing needs. The Child Care Center maintains a multi-disciplinary approach to early-childhood education, engaging the students in personal and group activities ranging from environmental appreciation to music and cognitive development.

The Child Care and Development Center is scheduled to host a pumpkin party on October 28th from 4 to 6 p.m. in Campus School North room 100. Attendees will enjoy refreshments and will be able to take a pumpkin home with them just in time for Halloween. Another event scheduled by the Child Care and Development Center is a book fair from November 1-3 held in the University Center Atrium. Parents and teachers will have the opportunity to purchase the latest in children's literature, while supporting the goals of the Child Care and Development Center. The unique philosophies of the Child Care and Development Center promote a well-rounded education that parallels the educational goals of the University. The integral foundations of early-childhood education are the initial building blocks of any good education. The Child Care and Development Center has been helping shape young minds for years, and will continue to remain on the cutting-edge of early childhood education while helping mold the minds of America's future.
