Softball Earns NFCA Academic Honors

UNION, N.J. - The Kean University softball team earned academic recognition by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for their efforts in the classroom.

Under Head Coach Margie Acker, the Cougars posted the 33rd highest cumulative grade point average of the more than 400 NCAA Division III schools that sponsor softball.

Individually, seniors Johanna Hedler (South Plainfield, N.J.) and Katie Hicks (Medford Lakes, N.J.), junior Jasmyne Vargas (Carteret, N.J.), sophomores Sara Steinman (Springfield, N.J.) and Melissa Dietrich (Carteret, N.J.) were all named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes after posting a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The Cougars finished the 2007 season as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championships Runners-Up after posting a 24-15 overall record.
