Fall is here, the leaves are beginning to turn nice shades of orange and red, and Halloween is right around the corner. Do you remember when you were a kid, how excited you'd get at the thought of getting dressed up and going from to door to door to rack up on your favorite candy? Does it bring back good memories just thinking about it? Sure it does! Some people might think once you hit a certain age, Halloween becomes an insignificant Halloween. This couldn't be any more further from the truth than the sky being blue. You are never too old to enjoy the fun of Halloween.
October 31 is a special day! It allows eager trick or treaters to use their imaginations and transform into something totally different than their everyday get up. Let's not forget about the free candy. And who can resist that?
It is always good to have fun by participating in social activities of this nature, but it is also important to remember you don't have to break the bank to do it. At the end of the day, we are college students and should practice living within our means. If you are interested in celebrating Halloween and you notice the funds are low, don't get discouraged. There are plenty of ways to get in the spirit of Halloween and still manage to stick to your budget.
There are a variety of thrift stores and discount Halloween stores where you can go to purchase inexpensive clothes, wigs, and accessories. If you are really strapped for cash, you can always opt to make your own costume using clothes and accessories you have laying around house. And there are a variety of characters you can be. For example, ladies let your hair down, thrown on your sequin "Freak Em" dress on, a pair of stilettos, costume jewelry, and borrow your little sister's toy microphone, and there you go! Instant Beyonce! For all you guys out there; let's pretend you're a Greek God. Grab a white sheet, some fabric string, jeans, sneakers or boots, and you're good to go! Don't be afraid to push the limit! Your options are endless, so let your imagination run wild.
Once you've got your costume together, it's time to decide how you want to spend your Halloween. There are a number of events you can attend, both on and off campus. On Wednesday, October 31, Downs Hall is sponsoring a theme-night Halloween dinner from 4:15pm-8:30pm. Students can come dressed in their costumes and eat Halloween inspired foods. The student who wears the best costume can win a prize of up to $150. And there are more events where that came from!
Halloween is right around the corner, so there is no time to waste! Put on your costume, grab your candy bag, and get your trick-or-treat on! Happy Halloween!
