In whatever direction one may to turn to there is always multiculturalism. Does not matter the color race or culture the fact that there are various diverse people in the nation, makes the country we will in ever more multicultural. Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated at Kean University makes sure to remind the campus community every year about multiculturalism and makes everyone aware of its presence in everyone's lives.

On April 16, 2012, Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated presented their annual event "Recognizing and Celebrating Ethnicities" (R.A.C.E) this event embodied the celebration of heritages, cultures and traditions and promoted diversity and a clearer understanding of culture as a whole. Food, performances and art work was displayed for all to see. The doors opened at 7 pm, in Downs Hall and soon people began to stream in.

After alumni Suki-Liyah Booker sang the national anthem, the event began with a fashion show. Host Giselle Torries and co-host Priya Patel amped the crowd with presenting them with all the different models who wore varies cultural clothing. Diane Calle senior public administration major wore a traditional outfit of Ecuador, which consisted of a shawl and her hair braided into two long ponytails. The ponytails were than braided together so that her hair would form a "U" in the back of her head. Model Julissa La Madrid donned a traditional Peruvian outfit that to this day is still used to dance to cultural music.

After the fashion show the audience was enlightened by varies performers who brought out their own talent from hip-hop, rap, to R&B. "This is a great event that embodies and pays tribute to different cultures which in the end makes this a huge success," explains Tito Rosero. Even cultural dances were performed, by "Café y Orquidea" and "Club Columbia." Children of varies ages danced their hearts away as the audience stared in awe. Andres Orozco a sophomore criminal justice major was intrigued by the event stating "I few days ago there was an even just like this and this one is way better...I love how it was organized!"

Ever year Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Inc. strives to make R.A.C.E a possible and huge success. As the first multicultural Greek letter organization from Rutgers University New Brunswick, MSU wants to make it known to all that multiculturalism is embraced in their organization. "I always get questions about us being multicultural and if we we require a specific race and this and that" explains Karina Pazmino, sister of Mu Sigma Upsilon sorority Inc. "No, we are multicultural and welcome all!"
