Eating healthy can be something everyone wants to do, but is unsure how to get started. In honor of Black History Month, and to help give more information for eating healthier, the National Council of Negro Women, Inc (NCNW) hosted SOULFOOD: Food for the Soul on Feb. 27. The event was centered around discussing ways to eat healthier, and what students can do to make sure they are fitting better foods into their day-to-day lives. The event took place in the Miron Student Center (MSC) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Kean University Board of Trustees is currently looking for the next Alternate, Non-voting, Student Trustee. Students at Kean University may now begin sending in applications to fill the position. All applications must be received by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs by 2 p.m. on Friday, March 6.

Going to college is not just about attending classes. It is also a chance for students to join organizations and get involved in the place they will be spending their time for the next four years. P.U.L.S.E. (Programming for Unique and Lively Student Experience) is giving students an opportunity to get involved on campus by opening up applications for students to join their organization.

The Office of Admissions will be hosting Accepted Student Night for potential incoming students who have recently been accepted into Kean University. Current Kean University students are being called upon to volunteer their time for this event. Accepted Students Night will be taking place on Thursday, March 12 from 5 to 9 p.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, in the North Academic Avenue Building, Kean University presented the most recent speaker in their Distinguished Lecture Series. This month's speaker was Martin Luther King III, who spoke to the Kean community about the injustices many in the community are currently facing as well as the importance of voting and overcoming voter suppression.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, the National Council of Negro Woman, Inc (NCNW) held a day long event entitled "For Us By Us." The event was a chance for students to come together and celebrate black culture, work on self-care and beauty, educate and uplift each other and make connections with other students and people already working in professional fields. The event started at 3 p.m. and went until 10 p.m. within the Miron Student Center (MSC) building.

February is the month to remember, discuss and celebrate black history. On Feb. 3, Kean University highlighted the start of the month's festivities with the Black History Month Kickoff, which was hosted by the Student Organization of Kean. The kickoff took place in the Miron Student Center (MSC) Atrium from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and saw plenty of students join in the festivities and prepare for the month.

Thursday, Jan. 30, the Study Abroad Fair returned to Kean University. Students gathered in the Center for Academic Success (CAS) to talk to different study abroad providers and learn how they could make the most of their time studying in college. The fair took place from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Jan. 23 at 3:30 p.m., 11 freshman students were celebrated for their success in earning a 4.0 grade point average in their first semester at Kean University. The celebration took place in the lobby of the Center for Academic Success (CAS). The event was small, with only 6 of the 11 students being able to attend, but the General Education faculty and staff stood by to watch them receive their awards.

Senior portraits are a commemoration of the hard work and dedication it takes to complete one's college career. During the months of February, March and April, the seniors of Kean University will have their chance to memorialize their own hard work by getting their portraits taken with Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch. Photo sessions will take place in the Miron Student Center (MSC), Room 226 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Spending Christmas at Hogwarts has always been a magical dream for fans of the Harry Potter franchise. Now that dream can become a reality, as Liberty Hall will be hosting a Christmas Tour: Harry Potter at Liberty Hall event. The event began Friday, Nov. 29 and will end Saturday, Dec. 28, so anyone who ever wanted to find themselves roaming the halls of Hogwarts now has a chance to do just that.

The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) is an honor society at Kean and other universities that focuses on helping students become leaders of today and prepare for their future. Luke Agojo, the current president of the society, brought the NSLS to Kean University and is looking forward to continuing to help students work toward their future goals.

As December draws near, holiday shows and events are becoming necessities. At Kean University, Kean Stage is preparing for the holidays with four shows: The Klezmatics, A Very Electric Holiday, Darlene Love: Love for the Holidays and A Christmas Story (film). Each of these events will be taking place between December 8-15.

Getting involved on campus is one of the many ways college students can make their college experience more memorable. This is something Kayla Asare, a senior at Kean University, knows well. Not only is she the current Chapter President of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, but she also serves as the Student Trustee for Kean University's Board of Trustees.A Board of Trustees is an elected group of people who are responsible for managing an organization. Kean University has a Board of Trustees made up of 15 members, all appointed by the Governor of New Jersey. Each year, a Student Trustee representative is picked to work alongside the Board of Trustees. Asare was this year's pick, having learned of the chance to become a Student Trustee from one of her professors while working for Kean Hall.

Financial Aid is just one of the many resources college students have at their disposal when it comes to paying for their college tuition. At Kean University, a system has been put in place called the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy, which focuses on ensuring financial aid recipients are earning the credits they need to stay eligible for aid.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m., students will be able to gather in the STEM Auditorium for the Social Media Summit. Hosted by KeanTV, the Social Media Summit is a chance for aspiring influencers to meet people that are already working hard in their field and discover how they too can grow their brand.

Everyone likes the idea of fine dining, but not everyone has the means to enjoy it all of the time. The Kean community now has a chance to delight in some discounted fine dining, as Ursino Steakhouse & Tavern, a restaurant in their own backyard, has rolled out a Cougar Express Lunch Menu for the Kean community to enjoy.

When studying abroad, students have to face the challenge of dealing with new surroundings, new people and possibly feeling out of place. At Kean University, that feeling is being combated by the creation of Wenzhou-Kean University Student Association (WKUSA).
