A year into the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kean University community now looks toward their path back to campus and coming together again safely and effectively. With the numbers of vaccinated persons rising and the knowledge of the virus increasing, the university is looking towards returning to in-person classes in the coming Fall 2021 semester.

The Women's and Gender Studies Minor Program at Kean University is an exciting and enriching opportunity for students from a variety of majors and professional fields to add to their program evaluation. Adding a minor in Women's and Gender Studies is a way to develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, analytics and a gendered-oriented perspective to a multitude of tasks and discussions.

One benefit of the current state of the world is the increase in diverse, educational, virtual events. Wednesday, Dec. 2, the Holocaust Resource Center will be hosting the Murray Pantirer Memorial Scholar Lecture with Dr. Marion Kaplan. The lecture, to be hosted on Zoom from 7 to 8 p.m., will address the experience of Jewish refugees who fled to Portugal to live in a "limbo" until they could escape abroad.

This year, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was unlike any other before. Students and members of the local community were invited to attend a virtual breast cancer awareness walk in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness and funds to find a cure for the disease that affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S.

From Oct. 15 to 18, Premiere Stages is back with their first live program of the Fall 2020 semester! To be hosted in an outdoor tent outside of Liberty Hall, Premiere will be putting on Cheryl L. West’s new play, Fannie Lou Hamer, Speak On It!, directed by Marshall Jones III.

Monday, Aug. 31, new Kean University president, Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D., introduced himself to the Kean community at his first Opening Day Address. Livestreamed for the community, the address was an opportunity to hear Repollet speak to both the incoming new student class as well as returning students, staff and faculty alike.

Engagement doesn't have to stop because the semester is over. Kean University, student groups and organizations continue to offer a variety of events to help the Kean community make the most of their time. There is something for every student as activities range between creative, active, gaming and competitive, educational, service and civic engagement, social and wellness events. The Michael Graves College is having their first completely online senior portfolio review Thursday, May 14. For the event, students from the different majors under the Michael Graves College have their work submitted to be viewed online through Instagram, LinkedIn and the Michael Graves College Review website.

Premiere Stages will be offering The Premiere Senior Endeavor Awards, a playwriting competition for New Jersey residents, in hopes to keep artists and lovers of the stage and writing engaged creatively, and to award their hard work during this unexplored time.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic interjecting in the Spring 2020 semester, Kean University is offering a Pass/Fail grading option for up to two courses for students at each of Kean's campuses, including the Union, Wenzhou, Skylands and Ocean campuses.

Kean University now, more than ever is working together to continue as normal in the midst of an ever-changing time. With the transition online, students are highly affected academically and socially as they are conducting their day to day lives from home now. Kean students and university departments are each coping with these transitions in their own ways.

With the changing circumstances during remote education, it could be easy to expect offices on campus to pack up shop and wait until students return in the fall. However, COVID-19 will not stop Career Services from connecting students to career opportunities and helping them plan for their futures.
