With each year, Kean University adds various resources and perks to campus for the benefit of both residents and commuters. One facet of the university that is frequently updated are the residence halls. The university does its best to ensure that all residents feel welcomed and prepared to fulfill academic and athletic obligations throughout their entire stay on campus.

The MLK Week of Service here at Kean University took place from Feb. 15 to Feb. 25. This span was filled with numerous service projects that provided many students with opportunities to play an instrumental role in the community. More importantly, it was a week that honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who was not only focused on civil rights but also on the community. These service projects were all organized by the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS).

Research Days is set to take place on April 24-25 in the spring semester of 2018 in the STEM Building, and all students and faculty who are engaging in a research project are encouraged to join. This event has always been a positive experience for students and seeks to continue in such fashion next year.

The Kean Federation of Teachers (KFT) has announced that it is offering a scholarship contest for all Kean students. Whether a student is full-time, part-time, undergraduate, or graduate, they can apply for this essay contest. However, students must have attended classes in the Fall 2017 semester and will be attending classes in the Spring 2018 semester in order to be eligible.

The CLA Career Development Workshop is coming to Kean University in Spring 2018, and sophomores and juniors can apply now. This will be the second year in a row that the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) hosts this workshop. It is a prime opportunity for students to get the essential preparation for moving toward their future goals and careers.

Student groups and organizations are always planning different events for their members. However, the event planning process can be confusing at times or seem exhausting. New student groups may not even be aware of the event planning process. Thus, this should serve as a key tool for any student group interested in putting together events the right way.

Students are encouraged to attend Coffee with a Cop hosted by KeanSAFE on Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to meet the campus police over coffee and doughnuts in the Hutchinson Commuters Lounge.
