Due to the hard work of Kean students and faculty, MLK Week of Service has come to an end and has accomplished many things within its events. MLK Week of Service, not only commemorates one of the greatest historical figures, but also shows the dedications of Kean students when they set their minds to doing the right thing.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, college sports have been put on hold, leaving their audiences missing their favorite teams and their players missing their favorite sports. During the fall 2020 semester college sports were finally allowed to open up. The Kean men’s and women’s basketball teams had a successful first season back.

Plays by People in affiliation with Premiere Stages at Kean University presented its virtual performances via Zoom on Saturday, March 27 at 4 p.m. After registering to sign up, audience members were sent Zoom links to take part in the event. The event was held possible by the New Jersey Theater Alliance 2021 Stages Festival.

On March 24, students from a variety of majors joined Kean's Women and Gender Studies Program, in partnership with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, College of Liberal Arts and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, to welcome guest speaker Dr. Claire Renzetti to present her research on sexual assault and a college students perception.

Starting every new semester the question is asked, will there be required text I need to purchase? Soon enough, syllabi full of multiple required texts for each class begin flooding emails and the search is on to determine where to find the cheapest version of these textbooks.

Maneuvering through college and making sure that one is staying on track with classes and credits can be a taxing task. A student may think they are on-track to graduate until they find out that they do not have enough credits or missed a class that was crucial to their graduation. To help upperclassmen avoid this and graduate on time, Kean has created The Cougar Climb.

March is declared as Women’s History Month, a time to recognize women’s contributions to culture and society through history. Influential women have paved the way to allow today’s generation to achieve more than ever possible before. Kean University recognizes these contributions and celebrates the women within their community and beyond.

Kean University is home to many graduate programs for students to expand their knowledge even further. One of the graduate programs is the M.A. in English Writing Studies. This program is designed for students who are looking to further improve and practice their writing skills. In addition to learning about topics such as art and theory and how they relate to English writing.

A year into the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kean University community now looks toward their path back to campus and coming together again safely and effectively. With the numbers of vaccinated persons rising and the knowledge of the virus increasing, the university is looking towards returning to in-person classes in the coming Fall 2021 semester.

The Kean Counseling, Accessibility, and Alcohol and Other Drug Services (KCC) hosted a virtual mindfulness event on Wednesday, March 17. This workshop is one of many in a series that will continue weekly until the end of the semester. Students who attended were able to de-stress themselves with meditation exercises that help gain control of achieving total wellness.

As we move quickly through our Spring 2021 semester, the time has come once again to begin thinking about registration and the schedule for the upcoming semester. It can be difficult to navigate KeanWise and to pick courses, not only for incoming students but for the students doing it remotely. Kean has implemented a new student planning program to aid in making scheduling courses a little easier.

On March 19, Kean P.U.L.S.E Programming Board for Unique and Lively Students (P.U.L.S.E) hosted their first Roots: Tiny Desk Concert on Youtube Live in celebration of Black History Month. Both students and staff were welcome to watch Kean students share their roots through a variety of performances from dance, spoken word and song.

One of the most important parts of graduation is what a student will wear as they cross the stage into their life moving forward. A beautiful dress, heels, pressed suit, and dress shoes are only half of the attire graduates will be sporting on one of the most important days of their lives. The graduation regalia that worn over-top of the primed outfits, are a staple of this momentous occasion.
