The University Center Little Theatre was nearly packed on Wednesday, March 2, for the Big Events Little Theatre highly anticipated guest, Psychic, Robert Channing. I'm sure you have no clue who he is, what he does, or why you should have been there. The lucky individuals that were in attendance will assure you it was an unforgettable night.
Usually at events like this everyone just goes with the flow, they might pay attention, talk to friends, check their cell phone, go to the bathroom, or leave early. Not with Robert Channing, his astonishing ESP abilities, mind reading skills, and psychic experiments pulled us into a whirlwind of some alternate reality. Saying there was audience participation at the Robert Channing show does no justice to what really happened. The truth is the whole audience was blown away; it was truly entertainment at its best. By the end of the show there wasn't a skeptic in sight. Robert Channing is blessed with psychic talents known as ESP (Extra Sensory Perception), the ability to externally sense things without using ordinary senses. ESP is most commonly called the "sixth sense." Individuals like Robert Channing receive sensory information which comes beyond the ordinary five senses; sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. These senses provide his with information of the present, past, and future.
Sophomore, Chris Cobo, and Junior, Crystal Crawley had the pleasure of assisting Mr. Channing in several of the night's events. First he asked them to help him eliminate his sense of sight by placing six pieces of duct tape and a thick blindfold over his eyes. While blindfolded he guessed a dollar bill amount and the serial numbers on the bill. Chris and Crystal collected objects from audience members like a Discman, car key, cell phone, sunglasses and lip balm which he described in detail without even touching.
The highlight of the night was when the audience wrote on index cards the following information: the funniest moment in their life, a number, a question for him to answer, and a name or nickname. After all the cards were collected and put in a bowl he would ruffle through the bowl, feel the card, and rub it on his head. Still blindfolded, there is no way he can see. Without looking at a single question, he somehow read the questions and the minds of the audience, and answers them. He revealed personal information on the card such as relationship status, hilarious memories, exact numbers, and answered questions about the future. The fortunate few that he was most drawn to gained insight into their future, like the cars they will drive, who they will marry, how many children they will have, or where they will live.
Tatiana Duran's eyeglasses will never be the same after the experience they had with Robert Channing. After setting them on stage he manipulated telekinetic energy to make her glasses flip around and turn over. He stated that it was similar to an Ouija board, where without physically touching the object you can make it move.
Despite the free entertainment, this experience was priceless. If this opportunity presents itself again, DON'T MISS IT!
