KEAN SWEEPS RAMAPO AS AICH EARNS TWO WINS, 3-2 & 10-6

Union, N.J. (4/12/08) - Junior Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) picked up two wins in relief as Kean University swept Ramapo College, 3-2 in eleven innings in game one and 10-6 in eight innings in game two Saturday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium. Game two was called for darkness. Aich (5-1) tossed the final two and a third innings as game one went into extras. He allowed no runs and just one hit while striking out two. In game two he tossed two innings with two hits and one run.

Game One (Kean 3, Ramapo 2, 11 innings)

In the bottom of the 11th with two outs, catcher Kevin O'Neill (Union, N.J.) (pictured right) singled to center to get aboard. Senior Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, N.J.) then singled him home with a shot to leftfield for the win.

The Roadrunners (12-16, 1-9 NJAC) got things started with two runs in the top of the first, taking advantage of two Cougar miscues. Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., N.J.) scored the game's first run on an RBI groundout while junior Mike Manges (Glen Rock, N.J.) recorded an RBI single to put Ramapo up 2-0 early.

KU (24-8, 8-4 NJAC) responded back with one run in the fourth as sophomore Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) hit a solo blast to lead off the inning. The Cougars tied the game in their half of the seventh as O'Neill led off the inning with a double. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, senior Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.) lined a double to left to bring home O'Neill.

Senior Tom Paglione (Hamilton, N.J.) tossed another productive outing as he went eight and two thirds innings scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run. He struck out four and walked two.

Sophomore Joey Cacchiola (Union, N.J.) suffered the loss after allowing four this and the winning run in four and a third innings of work.

Game Two (Kean 10, Ramapo 6, 8 innings)

Kean broke a 5-5 tie with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led off the inning with a double. Senior Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) then sacrificed him over to third. Burke would later score on an error. Freshman Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.) later lined a double down the leftfield line to drive in two. After a Mike Diaz (Westfield, N.J.) RBI single, O'Neill rounded out the scoring with an RBI triple.

Both teams traded big innings in the start of the nightcap. The Roadrunners got things going with a three spot in the top of the first. Jairo Jimenez (Bronx, N.Y.) registered a one out, RBI single while teammate John Callandrello (Montville, N.J.) produced an RBI sacrifice fly.

Kean rallied in the bottom of the second, plating four runs of their own. KU took advantage of three errors by the Roadrunners in the inning. Diaz recorded an RBI single while O'Neill had an RBI groundout. De La Rosa completed the scoring with an RBI single through the rightside.

Junior Colin Feneis (Spotswood, N.J.) started and picked up a no-decision. Feneis tossed six plus innings allowing five runs, two earned, as well as seven hits. Freshman Jack McDonough (Cranford, N.J.) suffered the loss after allowing nine runs, five earned, on nine hits. He (4-2) also struck out five and walked three.

Offensively for the Cougars, Nolan (pictured left) finished the afternoon with a combined 5-for-8 performance with three runs scored. Sophomore Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. For the Roadrunners, Ryan Paxton was 3-for-7 with four runs scored.

Kean enjoys a short break in the action and will return to play on Friday, April 18th when they travel to New Jersey City University for a 3:30 p.m. first-pitch.
