Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match to Rutgers-Camden

UNION, N.J. (10/16/08) - Rutgers-Camden rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat host Kean University, (21-25, 28-26, 25-15, 25-18, 15-10) in New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening. Kean (7-13, 1-5 NJAC) won the opening two sets by a combined six points, before the Scarlet Raptors (8-12, 1-5 NJAC) rallied to win the next two sets to force the decisive fifth set. In the final set, the Cougars took a 4-0 lead, but Rutgers-Camden again rallied to tie the match at 4-4 before pulling out the win.

Freshman Jamie Sacco (Park Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore Ivana Kapetanovic (East Brunswick, N.J.) (pictured right) combined for 21 kills for the Cougars.

For the Scarlet Raptors, senior Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, N.J.) registered a match-high 20 kills and added 16 digs and four solo blocks, as Rutgers-Camden recorded just their second NJAC win in program history and extend their school-record wins in season.

In the victory, sophomore setter Krista White (Cherry Hill, N.J.) had 21 assists, while freshman Katherine Crosby (Marlton, N.J.) had eight service aces and nine digs.

Kean freshman setter Yesenia Velasquez (North Arlington, N.J.) had a match-high 32 assists and classmate Mary Aldana (Jersey City, N.J.) recorded a match-high 24 digs.
