NEW YORK (2/22/10) - The Kean University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships. The Cougars finished tied for sixth in the men's competition, while the women finished ninth overall. The College of New Jersey captured both the men's and women's titles, as the Lions have won every NJAC Championship since the meet's inception in 1998.
The Cougars set three school records in the meet, with rookie Kevin Persson having a role in two of them.
Persson broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash he set a week ago, placing third in the race in a time of 49.30 seconds. The rookie also anchored the record-setting 1600-meter relay squad, as he joined senior Matt Gough, freshman Barry Clark and junior Doug Bonner with a second-place finish in 3:23.75 seconds, also qualifying for the ECAC Indoor Championships.
The men's 800-meter relay team of Clark, senior Jean LeBlanc and freshmen Imoleme Ilogienboh and Joe Badru also set a new school mark, finishing in 1:32.04 to finish third.
Clark placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.59) to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Sophomore Aaron Lucas and rookie Vincent Schifini had third place finishes in the high jump (1.93m) and pole vault (4.25m), respectively. Junior John Badala added a fifth place finish in the shot put (14.50m).
A pair of sophomores had fifth place finishes for the women, as Jamie Sacco placed in the high jump (1.53m) and Maria Moya cleared 2.75 meters in the pole vault.
