Field Hockey Posts Second Straight Shutout

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (9/4/10) - Senior Kelly Mataya and junior Olivia Triano each had a goal and an assist to lead the Kean University field hockey team to its second straight shutout with a 3-0 victory over host Muhlenberg College at the Mule Classic on Saturday afternoon.The Cougars (2-1) held a 27-2 advantage in shots and a 20-4 edge in penalty corners over Muhlenberg (0-2).

Rookie Katelin Lezette (pictured right) opened the scoring for the Cougars early in the first half, when she slammed in the loose ball off the assist from senior Joelle Vitale.

In the second half, Mataya took a pass from Triano and scored from the top of the circle at just under the 56 minute mark. Less than seven minutes later, she returned the favor with a pass from the right side to Triano, who knocked in the long shot for the final goal of the game.

Muhlenberg goalkeeper Kristen Dornenburg made 16 saves in the game.

The Cougars have eight days off before returning to action on Sunday, September 12, when they travel to Roanoke College for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
