A Legend-ary Encore

In just five months, following his undergraduate commencement speech delivery, American musician and actor, John Legend, will make his second 2011 visit to Kean University.Tthis time, Legend will be performing music and storytelling with a small audience at Enlow Hall on East Campus. The special event is set to take place on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are now open to the general public and priced at $225 each.

Legend's Kean ‘encore' will be more intimate than his activist-themed commencement this past May. The artist shared with graduates and their families and friends the stories of his own exposure to fighting for, what he calls, "the civil right of our generation" – education. Legend encouraged and urged the audience members to "embrace [their] autonomy" and fight for equal access to quality education; an effort Legend has devoted much time and funds to. Legend has received well-deserved praise for his activism in education, including making it to Time Magazine's list of "100 Most Influential People".

No doubt that Legend, with the Enlow Hall performance attendees, will speak on his path with humanitarianism in educational efforts both in the United States and Africa and perform music for the central entertainment of the evening. Legend will have just finished a 50-day summer tour when he performs at Enlow Hall. Earlier this year, Legend received three Grammy awards for his music, bringing his total Grammy awards to nine. This means that Legend will be visiting Kean University with a performance at the time when his musical career is at its best; attendees have the odds in their favor to have an unforgettable evening.

John Legend's special event performance is just one of the many October events lined up to kick off the 2011-12 season at Enlow Hall. October 1 will mark the opening night with a performance of "show stopping hits" by 30 Rock's own Tony Award winning actress and singer, Jane Krakowski. Also to share the October-stage with Legend will be the ten member ensemble, The Creole Choir of Cuba, set to perform on October 9; and The Holland Wind Players orchestra set to perform on October 16. Legend's October performance will round the one year mark from another multi-Grammy nominated artist's performance on the Enlow stage – Vanessa Carlton.
