A Is For Apple!

Homecoming Apple Picking

A Is For Apple!
Kathryn Jackson

There is a cool breeze in the air that  nips noses with its sharpness. Clouds dust the skies and the sun shines with a crisp glare. Fallen apples nestle themselves in the green grass while children attempt to reach for the tallest branches. Apples swirled with the colors of green and red, are clenched tightly in eager hands as families crowd around trees. A sweet, tart fragrance litters the air.

Apple picking is a fun and engaging activity that many people do during the autumn months. It is a social activity that brings a lot of holiday cheer before the whirl of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and other winter celebrations such as Christmas and New Year's Day. The proverb, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", is a very accurate analysis. Apples are high in antioxidants, fiber, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, and many other vitamins and minerals. Since people love nice crispy treats, why not get something that is very nutritious?

On October 6, 2012 Liberty Hall hosted an event of Apple Picking from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Homecoming. It was a soothing and appealing activity that people could attend to partake in apple picking. People who visit the apple orchard are transported away from their daily life routines. Surrounded by a Victorian manor, beautiful gardens, and cool shaded areas, the Liberty Hall apple orchard is the perfect getaway from the busyness of school life.

Now that Homecoming is over, students should call ahead when wanting to visit the apple orchard. The program fee for adults is $5.00; the cost for a small bag is $8.00 and   $10.00 for a big bag. For more information call (908) 527-0400 and visit Liberty Hall to participate in all of their seasonal activities.
