Insightful Assistance for Students

Information on Disability Services

Kathryn Jackson

Equal opportunity is an important factor that many people -- especially college students -- strive for. Kean University prides itself upon providing equal opportunities for all of its students - those with and without disabilities.  Many services are provided for the students in order to accommodate everyone in the Kean community.

Academic assistance and accommodations are made for those who need it. These services come in the forms of priority registration and assistance, as well as classroom accommodations, such as a having note taker. Counseling is also offered to those who need it. Students who are visually impaired can get technology assistance. Those who are hearing impaired can acquire interpreter services, such as readers and testing accommodations.

In order to get support services, students must be a registered Kean University student. Students who seek help from the office of disability services must disclose their disability and submit documents to verify their eligibility under applicable law. Other forms that students are required to present are current class schedule and documentation of previous accommodations. The office of disability services will need consent when a student applies for academic accommodations.

The service provided is private and confidential. The assistants do not release any personal information without the students' written consent. Faculty is also required to express confidentiality with a student's personal disability information.

If students require more information on the office of disability services, visit Downs Hall, room 122 or call 908-737-4910.
