At Kean University, Homecoming is a time where the student body celebrates school spirit. This year, students showed off their Kean pride by constructing displays in different areas of the Harwood Arena parking lot. This year's theme helped Kean University celebrate a "Blue Harvest." The familiar blue of Kean University was displayed all throughout the grounds. Students embraced the fall harvest by decorating pumpkins, leaves, and other fall decorations.

Greek organizations along with student groups and clubs honored Kean University with creative presentations throughout the Harwood parking lot.  Judges presented scores to the displays based on which group had the best theme and school spirit.

The winners of this year's tailgate competition were fraternity Nu Delta Pi (NDP) and sorority Theta Phi Alpha (TPA). By joining forces, NDP and TPA came up with a Pilgrim and Native American theme that fit in well with the "Blue Harvest." The Greek organizations were awarded a $200 first place prize for their efforts in addition to being named "Greek Organization of the Week" by The Cougar's Byte.

President of TPA and senior sociology major, Ashley Franklin excitedly stated, "My sorority sister Lauren Todd and Khary Toomer came up with all of our ideas on what to do. They came up with all the sketches and put together exactly what they wanted. Everyone chipped in but those two really pulled it together to make it come out amazing for everyone."

President of NDP and senior adult fitness major, Kevin Kelly responded to the win by saying, "This will definitely help our organization in the future because I think we just keep setting the bar higher for ourselves. We can use coming in first place as motivation to put as much effort into every project as we did into Homecoming."

The tailgating competition at Harwood was just one of the many ways that Kean students, faculty, and alumni enjoyed Homecoming weekend. Despite winning and losing, the whole campus was able to come together and celebrate their Kean pride as one. The fellas' of NDP and the ladies of TPA were excited about their victory, but they were more excited about the success of Homecoming 2013.
