Spring Break -the ever so crucial week-long break away from the demands of school. Some students opt to stay at home and wallow in the comfort of their own space while others search for a getaway reminiscent of a Hollywood depiction of spring break. The only problem is, sometimes, making spring break a "true" vacation takes a lot of planning, effort, and money.

"I wouldn't mind going to Florida, I've never been there before but I really like the warm weather and it seems like there is a lot to do out there," said freshman journalism major WintaWoldai

When planning a vacation there is a lot to consider financially. The costs of transportation, a hotel, food, shopping, and going out are all expenses that must be accounted for. The long list of charges can be a deterrent for most students, but the reality is that there are actually a lot of unique spring break vacations for college students at reasonable prices.

Student City is an organization designed to provide spring break trips for college students at affordable prices. They offer accommodations such as affordable hotel suites that are available from four to seven days and discounts for meals, activities, and shopping. Students also get discount packages on spring break events and concerts. Students can take trips to exotic locations such as Panama City Beach in Florida, the British Virgin Islands, Cancun, Mexico, and more. "If I could go anywhere, I would go to Europe. It would be interesting to see what the culture is like over there with my own two eyes," freshman psychology major, Shameir Hanson stated, "I would not want to be in the states because, well, I live here. I would rather go somewhere where I can be a little disconnected from the American lifestyle."

For students interested in heading across the pond, Student Universe can assist with providing affordable flights and hotels that still maintain a quality standard that students can enjoy.  Students can travel to London for under $500 and acquire modern hotels for less than $50 a night. Students can also view the hotels, what the rooms look like, and receive a link to the hotel website to ensure they get what they pay for. Student Universe offers trips to Rome, Dublin, and Paris while also offering domestic trips to Los Angeles and New Orleans. For more information, visit (www.studentuniverse.com).

Students that are in need of more space than an affordable hotel suite can provide, can also consider renting a house.  Martha's Vineyard is a vacation island near Massachusetts with three different beaches complete with beach houses, standard houses, and a beach-city like environment. Students can rent out a four or even five bedroom house for under $300 per night. Freshman speech pathology major, Brittney Georges has actually been to Martha's Vineyard. "The best vacation I have been on would have to be Martha's Vineyard. They have a ferry that takes you and your car over there....there is usually always something to do during the day because it is like a regular town," says Georges excitedly "So you can go downtown where they have a bunch of stores to shop and restaurants, or you can go to the beach....everything is pretty much walking distance and if you want to go to one of the other towns on the island, they have a bunch of cabs that can take you."

As spring break approaches, students may feel like they and their friends are condemned to boredom, but there are actually a lot of options to make this spring break exceptional.  Woldai concluded, "We're still young so sometimes a vacation seems farfetched, because we automatically assume we do not have the money to make it happen." Contrary to popular belief, spring break can very easily be what you make of it.  It is just a matter of making it happen.
