Spring break is quickly, but steadily, approaching!  Still unsure of what to do during the week-long vacation starting Monday, March 10, 2014 and ending Sunday, March 17, 2014? Having trouble booking flights or leaving New Jersey? Trying to figure out what other activities are available? Look no further! The center for leadership and service (CLS

After Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast in October of 2012, many homes and valuables were lost, leaving families homeless. Since then, Kean University students have constantly volunteered their time in hopes of 'lending a helping hand'. The Alternative Spring Break program is a time for Kean University volunteers to take action-executing various community services in a matter of days, with the only compensation in mind is a thankful smile! Volunteers will have a chance to help the Jersey Shore community in rebuilding homes for low-income families, elderly, and/or disabled victims of Hurricane Sandy. Most tasks will consist of painting, sheet rock removal and installation, debris removal, and other manual labor tasks that will require volunteers to undergo general exertion and heavy lifting.

The volunteers will depart from Kean University at 7 a.m. Monday, March 10 and return at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14. Students are required to submit a payment of $50 by money order or check to the CLS

Interested students must first apply through CougarLinkkean.collegiatelink.net/form/start/23407) by Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. If selected, volunteers will be required to attend an orientation meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 3:30 p.m.; more information will be given after selections have been made.

Note: all participants in the Alternative Spring Break Program are required to stay with the Kean University group and are required to follow all guidelines and instructions. Although students will not be on campus grounds, the Kean University Student Code of Conduct will still be effective.
