Student identification cards (IDs) are distributive to all active Kean University students.

Student IDs play a very important role in the university. All Kean University students are required to obtain an ID card as a way to show that you are part of the Kean University community.

IDs can be obtained from the ID card office located in the office of student accounting on the third floor of the Administration Building. To receive an ID, a student must present a valid form of state issued photo identification. There is no charge for the first ID card issued. In the instance a student requires a replacement card, they will have to pay a fee of $15.

Students should carry their ID cards at all times. Student ID cards are used to purchase meals, flex plans, to enter the gym, library, computer labs, and to purchase tickets for university events and theater shows. Resident students must swipe their ID to enter into the residence halls.

Student IDs are also important for Kean University cougar dollars. Cougar dollars is money placed on a student’s account that can be used to purchase different items on-campus, whether it be food, books, or clothes. Cougar dollars can be used at the Kean University Bookstore, Union county bookstore, Starbucks, and the Cougar’s Den.

Cougar dollars can also be earned by taking select classes on campus. If a student takes a class on Friday that starts after 3:30 p.m. and a Saturday class that starts before noon, they can earn 50 dollars per credit. If a Saturday class is taken that starts after noon, students can earn $100 per credit. Students can retain these funds on the card, or transfer the funds to a Barnes & Noble gift card if they choose to do so.

The student accounting office can be reached at 908-737-3240 with any questions about ID cards.
