Two years ago, Kean University senior and marketing major Dan Barbera was thinking about the ever competitive field of global business. He wanted something to make himself stand out from the rest. Two years ago, Barbera began to put in the works the Cougars Global Business Club [CGBC].

Today, Barbera is the founder and president of the CGBC. The club connects students with their peers of similar interest in the area of global business. This club will create diverse relationships and furthers along each student’s knowledge of business. “We are a student ran club, where you will build relationships with peers and professors locally and globally,” said Barbera. “Furthermore, gain valuable expertise [in]the science of business. There will be speaker seminars, open discussions, and skills workshops. Give yourself the advantage over competition and discover the limitless field of Global Business!”

Academic advisor Dr. Michael Chattalas’ verdict of the club is in accordance with Barbera’s. He sees it as a chance for students to start building a network, not just in this area but halfway around the world, in China. “Joining the 'Global Cougars' now is a unique opportunity for students to play an active role in our multi-cultural university as it expands business education into the heart of China, while at the same time launches a flagship Global Business School for the New Jersey/New York region and beyond,” commented Chattalas.

The CGBC is more than just a résumé booster. Whilst attending meetings, student will learn key knowledge necessary to navigate the business world. Just as importantly, students will network. They will build relationships that will resonate and likely be beneficial in the future. “The club’s purpose is to be sought from corporations that will want to recruit Kean University’s students,” said Barbera. “Today’s competitive job market means the Cougar Global Business Club must differentiate us. We provide real-world business practices to further polish skills, leadership, and personal growth both on and off campus, as well as building ardent and lifelong alumni.”

Chattalas saw the opportunity to advise the club as a no brainer. “Serving as the academic advisor of the CGBC, is a natural consequence of my passion for expanding the opportunities for learning, leadership, career development and global outlook for our Kean students,” Chattalas said.

The club meets every other Tuesday in Willis 110 from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact Dan Barbera at BarberDa@kean.edu,  or visit their Cougar Link page at https://kean.CollegiateLink.net/organization/_global_business_club.
