On campus, students are able to take advantage of Health Services that lie in room 126 of Downs Hall. With a mission to make Kean University a safe and healthy environment for all students, faculty, and visitors, Health Services provides high quality assistants to meet the needs for everyone.

In order for students to use Health Services, students must have insurance as well as make an appointment online. Below is information on how to receive insurance, how to waive insurance, and as well as how to make an appointment.

Full time graduate and undergraduate students are required by law to have health insurance. Kean University provides health insurance for full time students to use, if in need of it. If a student does not have insurance, they are then required to register with the insurance provide by the university, UnitedHealthCare. The health insurance coverage fee, which last up to one year, is $1,502 for undergraduate students and $2,152 for graduate.

For those who have insurance, one must waive the insurance coverage fee every year in order to not be charged. For students who are in need of insurance, one must enroll every year between the dates of June 1 and September 30 for incoming students of the fall semester, and December 1 and February 28 for any incoming students for the spring semester.

Students taking advantage of the insurance provided by Kean University must complete the enrollment online to receive an insurance card, which can be printed offline.  To enroll or complete the insurance waiver, click here, and follow the instructions. For any students who are waiving the insurance, please have a student identification  card and an updated health insurance card at the time of the appointment with Health Services.

Please keep in mind that students must enroll by the given deadlines, as completing these actions cannot be done after the deadline has passed. Also, if a fulltime student drops to part time student after waiving the insurance or applying for insurance, the student will lose the coverage and UnitedHealthCare will not  provide a refund.

Throughout the school year, several students will catch a cold or the flu—especially during the flu season—so visiting Health Services comes to mind. Before students can visit Health Services, one must make an appointment. To make an appointment a student must first activate a ‘PATIENT PORTAL.’

To active this ‘PATIENT PORTAL’. After this has been completed, follow the simple steps to make an appointment. There is no fee for visiting Health Services, as it is one of many free assets that Kean University provides to its students. It is important that students arrive 15 minutes early before their scheduled time in order to fill out any necessary paper work. If a student arrives 15 minutes later than the schedule time, one will have to pay a late fee as well as reschedule.
