The Kean Dance Marathon is back!

Dancing For Donations

Last year on April 11, 2014, the Leadership Institute of Kean University hosted the very first Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) and it was an instant success. At the end of the night, a grand total of $12,518.10 was revealed to all that participated and the campus erupted with an overwhelming amount of joy and excitement. This year, KDM is being presented by the Greek Senate and will be held in Downs Hall on April 17, 2015 from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. All proceeds of KDM will be donated to Children’s Specialized Hospital.

KDM’s website, http://keandm.kintera.org/, tells the unfortunate yet heartwarming tale of the miracle child known as Bryce. Originally a patient at the Children’s Specialized Hospital for a developmental disorder, upon his graduation, no one would have predicted he would be returning for an unrelated tragedy. On November 25, 2011, Bryce was struck by a speeding motorist and dragged 60 feet, causing severe damage to his skull and limbs. Doctors feared the worst when he slipped into a coma for a week. Never giving up, Bryce’s parents were delighted when he awoke to give them a hug and from that moment on, he has been making strides in his recovery.

It is easy to participate in this year’s KDM; just follow these steps:

  1. Register a Team – Teams are to be comprised of at least 5 people. Students are encouraged to create teams as large as possible; the more people on the team, the greater the number of donations. Small groups can combine with other small groups in a joint effort.

  2. Fundraise – Once a team has been registered, the next step is to fundraise. There are different ways to fundraise for the event, such as selling clothing and or accessories, bake sales, holding fundraising events at restaurants, and any other creative way! Each team member is expected to raise a minimum of $50.

  3. Participate Year Round – The dance marathon is an event aimed to celebrate the teams’ efforts all year long, so make sure that even once a team reaches their goals, to continue fundraising.

The KDM website has several helpful pages, such as fundraising guidelines, fundraiser request forms, sponsor a participant, and dancer registration for visitors. KDM is too legit to sit! Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to raise money and save lives; miracles don’t have limits.
