It is hard to become involved on campus when there is an overwhelming amount of options and sometimes students decide to not even bother joining a club. There is also the question of, “How do I even begin to find the clubs and organizations that is right for me?” Well, the answer is easy! All university organizations are listed on Cougar Link along with meeting schedules and upcoming events. Everything from Greek Life, to heritage societies, to intramural sports are popular at Kean University—but there are some groups directed at those with particular interests.

  1. Kean U Sing? – This choir club is Kean University’s popular a cappella group. For singers and musicians alike, this group is perfect for anyone interested in expressing themselves loudly and proudly. Kean U Sing can be found on Facebook under Keanappella. The meetings are held on Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.  in Wilkins Theatre room 120.
  2. Point and Shoot – Until last year, Kean University had never had a photography club. Now a year later, Point and Shoot is extremely active on campus with various photoshoots. The club states that its purpose is “to unleash the creative side of students and enable them to enjoy a hobby that can make memories for a lifetime.” Meetings are on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Center for Academic Success (CAS) room 112.
  3. Cougars In Motion – Move over Spielberg, the cougars are in motion! Motion picture, that is. Kean University’s official film club specializes in fun and interactive on-campus short-film shoots that anyone can be involved in. These movie shoots take place every other Friday in the Green Lane Academic Building (GLAB) and meetings are from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays in CAS room 120.
  4. Kean Hurling Club – Hurling is the national sport of Ireland. Also referred to as the “fastest game on grass”, the object of the game is for players to use a wooden stick called a hurley to hit a ball called the sliotar through two goal posts. Kind of like an ancient Gaelic version of field hockey, Hurling is Ireland’s national passion. The Kean Hurling club is a member of the Northeast Collegiate Gaelic Athletic Association. All genders are welcome to participate.
  5. Equality For All – Previously known as K.U.G.A.R, Equality For All (EFA) is Kean University’s Gay/Straight Alliance. The alliance is determined to educate and advocate for all members of the LGBTQA community, while also discussing other issues of social justice. EFA meetings are on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Vaughn Eames room 112.
  6. Outdoor Adventure and Recreation Club (OAR) – For all those who love the outdoors, this club is ideal. The mission of OAR is to promote outside activities and recreation, and who doesn’t love playing outside? With this club, one will be able to truly enjoy themselves and the diverse landscapes and environment that New Jersey has to offer.
  7. Forensic Psychology Club - Forensic psychology is, in a nut shell, the art of applying psychological expertise to the area of criminal justice. This field has become increasingly popular in recent years due to television shows such as Criminal Minds, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, NCIS, and many others. This club aims to give those interested in forensic psychology a chance to network with professionals and visit facilities of prospective employers. This club meets every other Thursday in East Campus room 109 between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  8. Thrift Nation- Mackemore’s hit song “Thrift Shop” made the thrift store industry boom, but let’s not forget the initial purpose of second hand shops. At Kean University, Thrift Nation is dedicated to providing quality clothing to those in need. Through donations, students can show how much they really care about their community. They meet from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every other Tuesday in CAS 406. Donations can be made at the meeting.
  9. Deaf Jammers- One thing exceptionally unique about Kean University is The School of Communication Disorders and Deafness. Deaf Jammers is a group that promotes awareness of American Sign Language and deaf culture through performance. Once a year, the Deaf Jammers host an annual “Deaf Jam”; this past month being their fourth one. All sign language skill levels are encouraged to join.
  10. Student Alliance on Mental Illness (SAMI)- Even though mental illness is not as taboo as the subject used to be, it is still touchy amongst many people. SAMI is dedicated to raising awareness and ending the stigma that comes with the various mental disorders that people are diagnosed with daily. Through meetings, debates, events, and guest speakers, this club is determined to end the ignorance.
