To start off the 2015 fall semester, Greek Senate is hosting the well-known event Meet The Greeks. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Harwood Arena.

Meet The Greeks is one of the most popular events of the semester, bringing in hundreds of students from not only Kean University but other universities and colleges as well. Meet The Greeks is an event that helps students learn more about Greek Life and see which fraternities and sororities are present on the campus. “The main idea of the event is to welcome everyone into our Greek community. For students to learn what the Greek organizations are really about and to potentially join what we call home,” comments Jordan Cahill, a Greek life specialist who is currently a senior and majoring in fine arts.

In order to attend the event every attendee must obtain a ticket. Tickets are sold at the ticket booth in Harwood Arena upon arrival at the event. Kean University students that present their Kean identification (I.D.) card at the booth will get free admission. All other attendees will have to present formal identification, such as a state issued I.D., a United States license or a Military I.D. and will also have to pay $3.00 for a ticket. All proceeds will go to the Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) which helps raises money for the Children’s Specialized Hospital.

Many people may have negative thoughts about Greek Life, but being in a Greek Organization doesn’t mean partying day in and day out. As a matter of fact, “Greek Life is a lot of things. It’s a support system, it's greater involvement, it’s diversity, it’s leadership, it’s academic excellence . . . but most importantly it is your home away from home,” informs Cahill. She also informs that Greek Life is founded on five pillars: “brotherhood and sisterhood, leadership, scholarship, community service and social life.”

“By coming out to Meet the Greeks,” Cahill says, “students are taking the first step to gaining a whole new family. And even if Greek life is not for you, there is still the possibility of meeting a bunch of new people, making new friends, and having a great night watching [amazing] performances.”

Cahill, and of course other members of Greek Life, strongly encourage students to go to Meet The Geeks. Getting to know the 28 Greek Organizations won’t happen without attending this event. With 14 sororities and 14 fraternities students have a broad range of organizations to choose from if one would like to become a part of such an amazing community.

So come out, relax and enjoy the night with friends while getting to know more about Greek Life. But remember, as Cahill says, “don’t just stop at the table who has the best recruitment shirts or coolest stroll; really get to know the members because you are not just joining for four years, but for life.”
