Every group or organization on campus would like to have great flyers, and posters to be posted around campus. In 2014, Kean University welcomed the Michael Graves School of Design, attracting many graphic designers to Kean University. The rise of graphic design students and the new school led to the student group Graphic Organization (GO!) to come into existence.

“GO! is a club focused around graphic design,” comments John Simons who is a sophomore majoring in graphic design with a focus of advertising.  Simons, who is also the President of GO!, continues to say that “we assist in re-branding fellow clubs and designing posters, flyers, banners and business cards for any club [or club event].”

GO! wasn’t always about graphic design, though. At one point, GO! had its focus on designing galleries. GO! didn’t officially become an organization until the spring semester of 2015.

There are currently 10 members of GO! As a member of this organization, a student is able to learn and gain experience preparing them for what will happen after they graduate. One way students are helped to become an experienced designer, is through a critique and assist session where members are critiqued on their work and then assist to help their design projects be the best that it can be.

Currently, GO! is deigning concepts for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) event Hack Kean. At this event, students from high schools and other colleges will come together to learn about coding as well as make prototypes of innovations and ideas of attendees. The spring semester of 2014 was the first semester that Kean Hack was hosted and it was so successful that ACM will be doing it again during the spring semester of 2016.

As Simons says, “anyone can join; design is not a subjective field.” For those who want to join and would like more information about GO!, please email GO! at thegraphicorganization@gmail.com or visit them during college hour every Monday or Wednesday in room Studio A on the fifth floor of the Green Lane Academic Building (GLAB).

Students can also follow GO! on several social media platforms, such as Facebook – The Graphic Organization: GO!; Twitter - @thegraphicorg; and Instagram - @thegraphicorg.
