Going to college isn’t cheap. Luckily, Kean University is one of the most inexpensive universities in the state of New Jersey. Although students pay $10,000 to $20,000 a year, finding the money can be difficult which can result in some students to drop out because of insufficient funds.

Each year, in order to help ease some of this financial burden, the Kean University Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships, so it is important for students to place themselves in the running by visiting www.kean.edu/ku/scholarships and completing an online application by the March 1, 2016 deadline. Those who qualify would receive funding for the 2016-17 academic year.

For all students applying to scholarships, here are a few tips:

  • Be sure to apply before the March 1st deadline, and do not wait until the last minute.
  • Take your time, and make sure that you say everything that you need to communicate to the review committee, because once you click on the "submit" button, everything is final.
  • Those who qualify, should file for a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. It could assist you when completing the financial section.
  • Use your Kean email when establishing the application. Personal email accounts are not recommended.

The Director of Scholarship Services, Brian Treanor comments that, “Right now is the best time for students to apply to scholarships being offered to Kean University students, because doing so will place them in the running to receive an award for the 2016-17 academic year."

He also comments that he “always tell scholarship applicants to be very thorough in their communication, particularly in the essay section. Members of the review committee are always looking for attention to detail, and an application containing seemingly minor oversights like typos, grammatical and punctuation errors do not go unnoticed.”

Students who wish to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship website atwww.kean.edu/ku/scholarships. There is still plenty of time to apply. As Treanor says, “much like the lottery, you've got to be in it to win it! While it is a competitive process, the opportunities to help support your education are readily available in virtually every program offered here at Kean University.”

There are hundreds of scholarships that Kean University awards to it's students. Don't be that student who decides not to apply for a scholarship. One application puts you in the running for all scholarships that are deemed to be a match.
