Kean University Department of Theatre will introduce its production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar! On Friday, February 19, 2016, the show will show for the first time in Wilkins Theatre.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m., after which a reception will be held in the lobby. The show will then be held for seven nights following that, on February 19 to 21 and 24 to 27. Ernest Wiggins, Director, encourages everyone to go simply for the experience. He states, “what they get out of it is a different way of looking at reality…they won’t be the same after seeing the show…”

This particular showing is a unique opportunity for the attendees to meet with the cast and crew, which is a special feature of this performance. Beyond that, students are supporting their peers and classmates who go to exceptional lengths to put together a moving and extraordinary performance, and that personalizes an already intimate experience.

Wiggins explains the close nature of plays, “its live, direct experience…and whatever happens happens….there’s no retakes with on the stage. It’s not packaged, it is what it is, and the audience is a direct part of what happens on stage. That’s the wonderful thing about [the] play, it’s not passive. If you react, the actors react.”

Watching a play is a unique experience wherein viewers are required to be in the moment. In this fast-paced world where distractions are ubiquitous, committing attention entirely to a singular moment is rare. Plays remind people of the fleeting nature of every instance and encourage them to appreciate them while they can.

Wiggins states, “…what a play does [is] it forces you to listen. We’re kind of in a culture now that doesn’t ask us to listen much. Plays ask you to see a work of art and listen to wonderful language that you don’t hear too much anymore.”

The cost of tickets range from $10 to $15. Those interested in attending can log in to Cougar Link to RSVP. Tickets can also be purchased on the Kean Stage website at http://www.keanstage.com/theatre or by calling 908-737-7469
