To help incoming freshman students feel more at ease at Kean University, the Center for Academic Success (CAS) and the School of General Studies will host New Student Orientation (NSO) on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, beginning in Harwood Arena at 8 a.m. This year’s NSO will mark the beginning of college for more than 1,500 first-year students.

The orientation will start with a complimentary breakfast followed by a welcome from President Dawood Farahi, Vice President for Student Affairs Janice Murray Laury and senior public administration major Emily Cubilete, the president of Student Organization of Kean University, the full-time undergraduate student government. Students will also have a chance to listen to motivational speaker Jonathan Sprinkles. Sprinkles was voted National Speaker of the Year and has been inspiring Kean University students for the past 11 years.

Incoming students will spend the day with their Transition to Kean (T2K) professor and General Education Mentor (GEM). One student in each T2K class will have the opportunity to win a gift card to Barnes and Noble after completing a quiz about the campus tour video they were required to view prior to orientation.

In the afternoon, students will have a chance to meet with student groups and organizations, as well as various departments at an information fair held in Harwood Arena. The information fiar will give them a chance to obtain information and answers to any questions they may have, as well as allow them to see what Kean has to offer.
