Welcome to Kean!

Kean Student Organization President 2016, Emily M. Cubilete

Dear Kean University Students:

On behalf of Student Organization of Kean University, let me be one of the first to welcome you and congratulate you on starting this incredible and rewarding journey. We are excited to meet many of you and hope that your next few years at Kean are the best of your life. As you move forward, we encourage you to engage with other students, faculty, and staff members. Our mission as Student Organization is to be the voice for the undergraduate student body. Throughout this year, we hope you connect, commit and serve in all the innovative services we provide for your betterment and growth. Our goals are not possible without you and your voice. “It takes a village to raise a child”.

To all of our new cougars on campus, also known as the class of 2020… CONGRATULATIONS! Student Organization, along with all of our faculty and administrators, welcome you to Kean University. Coming to a university can have its challenges, but with the correct approach, every single one of you will succeed and excel in our campus community. Part of the right approach is making use of the resources you have on campus and love the things you’re doing at Kean. As you begin the next chapter of your life, never forget where you came from and never lose sight of where you are heading. Our advice to you is get involved right now. Do not fear that you cannot handle it or that you are not ready. Get involved right now and begin connecting with the best students and the best faculty members you will ever meet. We were once in your footsteps and understand that your first year at a world-class institution can be quite overwhelming, however, you each have a story to tell. How will your story begin?

To all of our new transfer students, we would like to take the time and thank you for choosing to enroll at Kean University. We are thrilled to have you join us and be apart of this growing community. As transfer students, we know your transition may not be the easiest when meeting new people, but Kean University will make it easier for you. We are recognized across the United States as one of the top 5 most diverse universities in the country, so establishing new relationships will be anything but challenging. This journey through college cannot always be planned because it is so heavily impacted by the endless opportunities and connections you make along the way. Step out of your comfort zone and let those opportunities happen. My advice to you is never say no to a new opportunity that can take your academic and co-curricular undertaking to the next level. Explore the different courses we have to offer that will strengthen not only you and your resume to heights untraveled before.

Lastly, to the students that make Kean University what it is today, to all the returning upperclassmen students… Welcome back to a new and fresh year awaiting you all. We are excited for you to experience the new improvements that have been implemented because of your voices. You are what makes Kean University the amazing community it is. Take pride in being a Kean Cougar because not many can say they are attending the most affordable comprehensive university in New Jersey, the finest growing institution with state of the art facilities, and not to mention one of the best universities in the world. Make this school year count by becoming an executive board officer of a student group, being apart of engaging activities and diverse festivities that Kean has to offer, joining a Greek-letter organization to enhance your leadership skills, attending a sports game and cheering our athletes on, or why not GET INVOLVED with YOUR STUDENT GOVERNMENT here at Kean. Everyone strives to make a difference some way some how; I just gave you the biggest hint on how to start.

As your Student Organization president, I am here to remind you all that change begins with YOU. We take pride in knowing that Kean students are excelling every day through their journey of change and growth.
