T2K Students Expected To Attend Workshops

Amanda Petty

As a student enrolled in the course GE 1000: Transition to Kean, it is a requirement to attend two workshops this semester: Student Wellness Workshop and Safer Sex Workshop.

Transition to Kean, commonly referred to as T2K, is housed in the School of General Studies. The course is intended to prepare new students for both college life and Kean University.

College can be an adjustment and T2K means to be a guide, as students navigate the at-times daunting ins and outs. Typical topics covered in the course are: time management, short-term and long-term goals, campus involvement, the hub of university resources, development of study skills and identification of one's strengths and weaknesses.

The Student Wellness Workshop will cover the student code of conduct, available campus counseling services and campus safety. The seminar presenters are Nicole Rodriguez, Director of Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct; Kimberly Quinn, Coordinator of Drug and Alcohol Assistance Services; and Lieutenant Michael Gorman III, Operations Division Commander of Kean University Police Department.

Dr. Norma Bowe, from College of Education, will present the Safer Sex Workshop.

The School of General Studies realizes the conflicts that arise when a student tries to fit a seminar into his or her hectic schedule. With that in mind, T2K students are presented several opportunities to attend both workshops.

However, both seminars are only offered up until the end of October.
