Every November, Kean University dedicates a week to help in the fight against hunger and homelessness. This year's Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week will be held from Tuesday, November 15, 2016, through Saturday, November 19, 2016.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is coordinated by the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS).

CLS will get a jump-start on promoting Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week through its Stand Campaign. Students interested in participating can stop by Miron Student Center (MSC) room 315-B between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016, or MSC room 226 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016, to learn more about the Stand Campaign and sign up for shifts. Shifts are scheduled for the week of November 14, 2016, to November 18, 2016.

The events scheduled for Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week are as follows:

Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18, 2016 – Join the NSCS (National Society for Collegiate Scholars) in the fight against hunger by donating to the food drive to benefit the Community FoodBank of N.J. Food items should be brought to Hutchinson room 100 between 3:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. A list of desired items can be found on the Community FoodBank of New Jersey's website.

Tuesday, November 15 , 2016– CLS volunteers will help at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Pediatric Mobile Food Pantry. Trips to the Mobile Food Pantry will run from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and registration is now full.

Wednesday, November 16, 2016 – From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., students will learn about the harsh realities facing the homeless through Game of Life: Hunger and Homeless Awareness Edition. Game of Life is intended to bring awareness to the dire circumstances facing the homeless and hungry. Students are encouraged to donate either a non-perishable food item or a toiletry item. Friday, November 18, 2016 – CLS volunteers will offer their assistance to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation will be provided, and buses will depart from Vaughn-Eames parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Registration for this event is now full.

Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20, 2016 – Come to the fifth floor of Bartlett Hall and help Resident Advisor Requel make sandwich bags for the homeless as part of Helping Hands. The event will be held at 10 p.m. on Saturday and 11 p.m. on Sunday.
