Want to do something different this spring break? The Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) is now accepting applications for the volunteering-based spring break, Alternative Spring Break.

From Sunday, March 5, 2017, through Thursday, March 9, 2017, students have the opportunity to actively commit themselves to give back to the community on this extended volunteering outing.

Students can expect to travel to and volunteer in the Ocean and Atlantic County area. Days will be spent at designated volunteer sites, which is determined closer to the trip. Daily activities can range from indoor to outdoor, installing sheetrock to painting, digging ditches to removing debris.

This service trip has a fee is $50. Included in the price is hotel, food and transportation.

This sound like the ideal itinerary for spring break 2017? Go online and apply now. The application is accessible on Cougar Link through the Cougar Volunteers page at https://kean.collegiatelink.net/organization/volunteer/availableforms. The deadline to apply is Monday, February 20, 2017. All applications are reviewed and those accepted will be contacted. Those selected to participate in Alternative Spring Break have until the week prior to the trip to pay the $50 fee.

A mandatory orientation for those selected to participate on Alternative Spring Break will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. in Miron Student Center (MSC), room 315. This meeting allows participants to get to know each other while receiving a more in-depth briefing on the four-day program.

As Alternative Spring Break is hosted by a Kean University department, participants are required to use the provided transportation and lodging. Kean University's Student Code of Conduct is to be followed for the entirety of the program.
